The Great Unwaste
We are really excited to have partnered with ‘The Great Unwaste’, led by Minister for Environment Matthew Swinbourn, and the wonderful people behind End Food Waste Australia. The campaign was launched on Wednesday, 10 September 2025 at Crown where we were represented by Kate and Jenny and supported by Cath.
Every year, the average Australian household discards approximately $2,500 worth of food, equating to 265kg – the equivalent of 26 full shopping trolleys. The Great Unwaste campaign offers practical tips to help households reduce food waste, lower their cost of living, and protect the environment.
The Great unwasted launch was an exciting event which we were really happy to be a part of. It highlighted the seven behaviours all households can adopt to reduce their food waste. Right from proper storage and labelling through to sticking to a shopping list, each tip is easy to understand and adopt.
In-line with our partnership, we will be holding an engaging presentation at the Royal Show on the Grazeland stage – to provide hands-on tips on how to reduce food waste. There will be nom! recipe booklets and The Great Unwaste meal planners provided on the day.
Our collaboration with The Great Unwaste will include 13 presentations, similar in content to the Royal Show presentation – free of charge – at two museums in the metro area and three regionally in Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Albany, with the remainder to other Local Government Areas, keep an eye out for more information.
We have been developing our nom! lesson plans to include the topic of food waste and sustainability which uses principles of econutrition. This is an expanding area in nutrition and we are excited to have partnered with the Western Metropolitan Regional Council, delivering eight food waste and sustainability sessions from June through to September in Subiaco, Claremont, Cottesloe, Peppermint Grove and Mosman Park. The sessions provided community members information on how recycling can benefit them and the environment including information about reducing foodwaste, neighbourhood recycling, FOGO bins, the Containers for Change initiative and so much more.
There are lots of exciting avenues that this partnership will take us down, so watch this space!
